How a BMW Could Be the Next “Mood Ring,” Only Much Better | Schomp BMW

Published on Jan 23, 2023 by Schomp BMW

Angry? Paint your BMW red. Happy? Paint it yellow. Moody? Paint it dark blue. And, by the way, you could have all these colors and more at once, even changing them over and over on the same day!

BMW astonished mobility watchers at the recently concluded CES 2023 (aka Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas with BMW i Vision Dee – Digital Emotional Experience. The most jaw-dropping aspect allows BMW owners to change their vehicle’s color(s) among 32 choices on 240 panels using E Ink technology.

BMW showcased the new mood-changing technology at CES 2023 to reinforce a vision of the future that is electric and digital. It’s dubbed the BMW NEUE KLASSE, a dedicated electric vehicle (EV) platform for a line of vehicles that will begin in 2025 with two 3 Series models, followed by a sedan and sport activity vehicle (SUV). The vehicles will be powered by an innovative battery pack that is round and offers more range, faster charging, and lower emissions during manufacturing.

Although color is the most visible aspect of i Vision Dee, there also are other amazing goodies:

Advanced BMW Head-Up Display – BMW was the leader in introducing a head-up display. This iteration takes in the whole width of the windshield so that information is more prominent and visible. It will be available in BMW NEUE KLASSE models. BMW Mixed Reality Slider – a five-step selection process by which drivers can use sensors on the instrument panel to select what they want to see on the Head-Up Display, ranging from analog through driving-related information to an augmented-reality projection into a virtual world. BMW’s “Phygital World” – BMW marries physical and digital in i Vision Dee to include graphics, light, and sound. BMW says that means “The headlights and the closed BMW kidney grille also form a phygital icon on a uniform surface, allowing the vehicle to produce different facial expressions.” It will even project a driver’s avatar image onto the side window.

“With the BMW i Vision Dee, we showcase what is possible when hardware and software merge. In this way, we can exploit the full potential of digitalization to transform the car into an intelligent companion. That is the future for automotive manufacturers – and, also, for BMW: the fusion of the virtual experience with genuine driving pleasure,” said Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW.

BMW is hurtling into the future, promising to be phygital and very colorful. If you don’t want to wait around for i Vision Dee’s revolutionary models, Schomp BMW’s client advisors would love to show you what’s available right now. It’s pretty high-tech, too, with all the safety, luxury, and comfort you’ve come to expect from BMW.
